Harvey Gulf's fleet of OSVs offers the following competitive advantages:

  • ABS DP-2 Certified: All of Harvey Gulf's OSVs are ABS DP-2 certified. In 2003, Harvey Gulf built the first new-generation OSV to receive ABS DP-2 certification. Each are equipped with state-of-the-art Kongsberg Simrad DP-2 systems that are fitted with three (3) GPS receivers, three (3) gyros, a fan beam, and radius-relative position units, enhancing station keeping ability and safety. Harvey Gulf has added an additional relative position sensor, or "DARPS" unit to supplement its "FAN BEAM" relative position unit and the two (2) Differential Global Positioning units, allowing the vessel to maintain position even with the loss of both Differential Global Positioning Systems and more importantly, allowing the vessels' D-P controls to "sense" the actual location of the vessel relative to the platform or a rig, which is subject to excursion movement, rather than relying on the vessel maintaining a geographic position. Finally, the vessels are equipped with a fourth fully functional joy stick control station, which is an unusual option for DP2 classed vessel.

  • ACP-ACCU Certification: Harvey Gulf has invested significant time and capital certifying two of its OSVs (HARVEY SUPPLIER and HARVEY SPIRIT) and its MPSV (HARVEY DISCOVERY) as Automated Centrally Controlled Unattended ("ACP-ACCU") by ABS. The achievement enables the vessels to receive reduced manning assignments for the engine room department, with each vessel having a much higher level of automation, fire control, central control of machinery and redundancy of mechanical and electrical components, among other features. For example, an ACP-ACCU certified vessel will have approximately 400 alarm points across all of the vessel's vitals compared to 125-150 alarm points on a vessel lacking certification, reducing the staffing necessary to manually monitor all of the vessels systems. Harvey Gulf's three ACP-ACCU certified vessels were the first vessels of their classification operating in the GOM to receive this certification.

  • Enhanced Bow Thrusters: Harvey Gulf's OSVs are equipped with bow thrusters that have substantially increased horsepower over initial design recommendations with the largest possible propellers and a combinator mode operational function providing advantages over competitor's conventional and new generation OSVs. OSVs equipped with higher horsepower have better maneuverability and station keeping, enhancing the vessel's dynamic positioning capability and safety record. The larger bow thrusters allow the thrusters to operate at variable speeds, rather than at low or high, saving on fuel, wear and tear on the equipment and reducing unwanted noise within the vessel.

  • Automated Cargo Discharge: Harvey Gulf's OSV's are equipped with automated cargo discharge and tank level indicators systems. The systems control approximately 200 automated cargo valves, 12 electric driven pumps and 2 air compressors through a commercial grade PC. The system is equipped with a virtual schematic on the PC display that shows the flow profile selected and requires confirmation from the operator before initiating the procedure. The tank level indicator system allows the crew to see the tank levels, the capacity percentage, and weight of cargos in each tank. These features reduce incidence of accidental discharges and contamination of onboard cargo. They also improve efficiency and customers with cargo loading decisions.

  • Dual Certification by U.S. Coast Guard: The HARVEY DISCOVERY, HARVEY SPIRIT, and HARVEY SUPPLIER each dual certified by the United States Coast Guard for Subchapter (I) and (L) operation.

  • Fixed Pitch Propellers: The majority of Dynamic Positioning equipped OSVs operating in the GOM use Z-Drives with adjustable pitch propellers. Harvey Gulf has equipped all OSVs (except for the DISCOVERY) with Fixed Pitch Propellers. OSVs equipped with Z-Drives cannot operate in and out of some shallow-water ports because contact with water bottoms can damage Z-Drives and variable pitch propellers and also create hydraulic fluid leaks. Fixed pitch propellers, however, can power through minor contact with bottoms without losing mobility or polluting the water, allowing the vessel to operate in shallow-water ports.

  • Customized Fuel Management Systems: Harvey Gulf's OSVs are equipped with an internally developed integrated fuel management system that continuously monitors the main engine fuel burn and calculates an efficiency factor based on the real time operating conditions including speed over the ground determined by DGPS interface. This information is available to the customer paying for the fuel.

  • Deck Safety Equipment:

    1. Cargo Tie Downs - Harvey Gulf's OSVs are equipped with at least 66 main deck mounted and recessed "Peck and Kale" cargo tie down points. These recessed tie down points provide better securing for cargo, reducing risk of damage, and do not present slip, trip, fall hazards because, unlike pad eyes.

    2. Deck Winches - Two (2) 10,000 lb. single line pull hydraulic operated deck winches are installed at the forward area of the main deck to assist in securing and moving cargo about the deck for safer positioning.

    3. "Safe Haven" - Safe Havens with four entryways are located along port and starboard sides of the main deck where permissible, providing a readily accessible "hiding" place for a crewmen or a rigger in the event of a dangerous condition.

    4. Rescue Zone - The vessels are equipped with a marked "rescue zone" located near mid ships port and starboard sides including a bulwark opening door and a portable ladder suitable for removing an injured person from the water.

    5. Safe Haven Quick Release Mooring Hooks - The vessels are equipped with 100-ton hydraulically operated (from the pilothouse) mooring hooks located at port and starboard stern areas. These devices will allow the vessel to immediately exit a mooring situation if it becomes unsafe.

    6. Mooring Winch - Harvey Gulf's OSVs are equipped with a foredeck mounted mooring winch suitable for extended mooring periods at a typical standby buoy.

  • Enhanced Crew Accommodations:

    1. Spacious quarters with television sets;

    2. Private quarters and baths for the vessels captain and engineer;

    3. Modern kitchens and common areas with premium equipment and furniture for offshore use; and

    4. Premium audio visual equipment.
